We were very groggy after a night bus from Cusco Landing in Puno in the very early hours about 5am, I curled up on a wicker chair in the lobby of our hostel trying not to think about the 06:30 tour we booked.........We mustered the willpower to go on another tour our to the Uros Islands of Lake Titicaca (The highest navigable lake in the world). Our boat captain gave us the lecture and our plans for the tour and thankfully between each stop was about 1 - 2 hours of transit and I slept for every single one of them! The islands themselves are constructed by the indigenous people our of Reeds that grown in abundance on the lake. Each lake can support several families, the one we visited had 3 separate families all living on the island together. We were taken for a boat ride on a boat made of the reeds, sat in the homes with the locals while they told us of their lives. The main take away was that if you don't like your neighbour you can always cut their anchor and watch them float away!

We zoomed around the lake to a few other islands indulging in a nice mid day hike fueled by willpower and cocoa leaves (I was running on empty here!). eventually getting back on steady land we met up with a couple of friends for a few drinks and dinner and take in the festivities as it was the local celebration of Puno becoming a town!

Recommending anyone going to Puno to stay in the Koala Hostel, nice hostel coupled with the weirdness of having an entire floor for a sauna and steam room.......weird but makes it feel like a small but of luxury!
