We landed in Huacachina which is an oasis in the Peruvian desert, a town built around a vibrantly green lagoon.....Did not go for a swim despite the heat! We choose to stay in the Wild Rover (The big party hostel of the area), it was a nice hostel if you don't value sleep too much and don't mind sleeping in a plywood coffin in a dorm! We wandered around the lagoon in the heat taking a break to read our books under palm trees by the lagoon edge! We linked up one of the Irish couples for a couple of drinks and for Sandboarding the next day!

The next day we went sandboarding in the dunes surrounding the Oasis, this was easily the best 16 euro spent on the entire trip! We Hiked up to the Dune Buggies where a self proclaimed "Peruvian Vin Diesel" decided to put the fear of god into 4 Irish and 6 Belgium tourists! Hitting dunes with such speed I ended up sitting on the poor Belgium girls lap! Stopping for the obligatory pictures we eventually got to the main attraction which was sandboarding, these were "Tourist Friendly" so we couldn't stand but just lie on our stomachs (It did not take away the fear factor, and I suspect made it even easier for us to spill out on the sand!). Slogging up dunes with our boards to rapidly descend and more likely than not gaining a few bruises on the way down!

After the sandboarding was done we buggied out to watch the sunset with some pre bought cans! Surreal as the shadows passed over the dunes and drinking a heavily shaken can of Heineken! We went back to our hostel for a few more cans and packed our bags for the next leg of the Peru Hop Experience (I was coming around to it at this point!).
